The Healer Have Been Looking For Is You

The best teachers do not ask students to worship their light. They hold the mirror steady long enough for seekers to recognize their own and teach without creating codependency. Great teachers guide without becoming the destination. They offer wisdom without replacing the student's inner authority. They can hold space for you without filling that space with themselves.

Eventually, every being must learn to trust their own inner knowing. The seeker has to develop their own relationship with Spirit. The yogi seeking answers has to become quiet enough to hear what has been speaking inside of them all along.

There is a strange thing that can happen when you become a teacher, healer, leader, guide, or simply someone who has learned how to come home to yourself.

People feel it: your presence, your clarity, your connection. They may feel calmer around you, more connected, more hopeful, more alive. Sometimes they see something in you that they have been hoping to find within themselves.

They might begin to believe that the feeling they experience in your presence is coming from you.

And if you're not careful, you can begin to believe it, too.

The responsibility of a good teacher is not to become someone's source. It is to help them recognize their own.

A teacher can hold up a mirror, but eventually the student has to look at themselves. A guide can point toward the path, but the person has to do the walking. A healer can create conditions in which healing becomes possible, but cannot heal someone else's life for them. A leader can illuminate possibilities, but cannot become another person's inner authority.

There are responsibilities that come with being a mirror. A mirror cannot intentionally distort the reflection of another.

Sometimes we see patterns in the people we love long before they are able to see those patterns themselves. That presents its own challenges. Do we tell them? Do we stay quiet? Do we soften the truth until it is no longer true because we don't want to hurt them?

There is no universal answer.

Not everything we see needs to be spoken. Seeing clearly does not give us ownership over another person's process.

Sometimes people ask for truth when what they actually want is reassurance. Sometimes they genuinely want the truth but discover they aren't ready to hear it. Sometimes they reject something today that becomes obvious to them years from now.

That is their journey.

Our responsibility is the integrity of what we offer: kindness, patience, non-judgment, freedom from our own opinions and projections, and love.

The Goal of Yoga Is Sovereignty

To me, the perfect students are the ones who develop their own practice, learn to trust their body, learn to hear their intuition—and actually listen to it.

Eventually, the seeker discovers that the connection they felt standing beside their teacher was never locked inside the teacher at all. The teacher simply helped them recognize the frequency.

The question changes from:

“How do I get more of what you have?”

to the statement:

"I have found it within myself!”

That is the entire point.

A great guide does not stand at the center saying, Follow me!

They continually redirect attention:

Listen. Feel. Look.

What do you notice?

What do you know?

What happens when you become still?

What does your own experience tell you?

As a teacher, it is my work to create enough safety, honesty, silence, and presence for you to encounter yourself.

Sometimes, when we realize people can project onto us, idealize us, compare themselves to us, or become dependent upon us, we may decide that the solution is to dim ourselves.

It isn't.

You do not need to become less beautiful so someone else feels beautiful. You do not need to hide your gifts so someone else recognizes theirs. You do not need to pretend your wisdom came easily.

Humility is not pretending there is nothing extraordinary about you.

Humility is understanding that what is extraordinary in you does not make anyone else less extraordinary.

Your light is not evidence of anyone else's so-called darkness.

It is evidence that light exists.

A teacher can point.

A guide can illuminate.

A healer can create the conditions for healing.

But none of them can walk the path for you.

And perhaps that is the greatest responsibility of anyone who teaches, leads, heals, or guides: to continually return people to themselves.

Not:

“Look what I can do for you.”

But:

“Look what you are beginning to recognize in yourself.”

The goal was never to collect people around our light.

The goal is to remind you that you have your own.

Because ultimately, the healer you are looking for is you.

Love, Aja
