Love Without Posession

Aug 22
2 min read

Participation without ownership.

Love moves through me, but it is not mine to keep. People move through my life, but they are not mine to possess. Experiences arrive, change me, and leave. Even this body is borrowed from nature and will one day return to it.

Suffering grows when we take something that is moving and demand that it become ours.

My person. My relationship. My future. My opportunity. My job. My business. My students. My children. My identity. My life.

But nature doesn't operate through possession.

Nature operates through relationship, exchange, transformation, and return.

The channel does not own the water that flows through it. It simply serves.

Attachment isn't actually the same thing as love.

Love can say, I want you. I cherish you. I hope you stay.

Attachment adds, therefore you must stay for me to remain okay.

An open hand can hold water for a while. A closed fist loses it immediately.

What you wish for another person, you wish for yourself. What you withhold from another person, you make yourself unable to receive.

Generosity shouldn't be transactional. You don't bless someone because they'll bless you back. You bless them because you refuse to block the river of love from within you.

You can want someone and still want them to be free. You can love someone and not require ownership. You can give without turning the gift into a debt. You can receive without turning what arrived into something you must horde. You can grieve when something leaves without deciding its leaving made the experience a failure.

Nothing has to belong to you for you to experience it fully.

A sunset doesn't belong to you. You still stop and stare.

A song doesn't belong to you. It still moves through your entire body.

A person doesn't have to belong to you for the meeting between you to be sacred.

And perhaps even "the gift of being is enough" means: I don't need existence to promise me permanence before I agree to love what it gives me.

Let it come.

Meet it fully.

Love it while it is here.

Let it change you.

Let it go when it goes.

Keep your channel open and let the river of life and experience flow through you freely.

You are made from and endless supply of divine love.

with LOVE,

Aja
